Well, not sure if anyone is still checking this blog but I am now working as a teacher-on-call with the North Vancouver school district. I worked my first day last week at Carson Graham Secondary in grades 8 and 10 Socials. It was great and I am super excited to be back in the highschools! I cannot wait to get a day teaching at Sutherland so I can see all the students and staff again. I hope that everyone's classes are going well and I hope to see everyone soon.
I had a crazy but exciting summer. I finished my classes at UBC at the beginning of August and then was married August 16, the hottest day of the summer! We had an amazing day with all our friends and family. We had a very relaxing honeymoon in Bora Bora and now all we have left of the wedding is our pictures and the very funny video footage of the day. Life is returning to normal as we get back to work. I hope to get lots of work in North Van and eventually a full time position. Also, I hope to return to coaching the soccer girls this spring. See you around....

Well, I have been back at UBC now for two weeks and I am back into the swing of being a student again. It is quite a change and I really miss everybody at Sutherland. I had a great time and learned a lot during my practicum and I hope that I can come back there next year as a substitute and eventually as a teacher. I hope everyone is having a great May and doing well in their classes.
The Junior Girls soccer team did excellent in their season and made it to playoffs. However, they were defeated by Hansworth in a really close game in the first round.
Feel free to keep in touch with me through my email and I will pop in sometime this month to say hello when I have a chance. Thank you again for making my first teaching experience pleasant and memorable!

SS9 Current Events presentation schedule
Social Studies 9 students: you have been assigned to find a current event (newspaper article) and to prepare a short (4-5 minute) presentation on the article and the topic. Please make sure you have the Current Events worksheet to complete and hand in. Please find an issue that is somewhat relevant to social studies (geography, politics, history, social issues, etc). You will be evaluated on your completion of this sheet, your understanding of the article and topic, and your ability to answer questions. This is worth 10 marks. We will go over the assignment in class on Monday and presentations will start Tuesday. Here is the schedule of presentations. Please email me if you have a problem with your assigned date.

The Exam will be worth approximately 57 marks and there will be an essay question on the Senate! You should be making flash cards to help you study and a minimum of 25 will get you 5 bonus marks on the Test.

If you do not have an Internet connection, you probably know someone who does or you can ask me the old-fashioned way.
Sutherland has a license to access Discovery Channel's United Streaming video collection. Students may download or stream videos from the collection by going to http://www.unitedstreaming.com/. Use the passcode posted in the classroom to register. If you have lost it, see me, or e-mail me, for this information. Students are licensed to include this content within their own creations.

-Powerpoint- What is the purpose of government? The 3 branches. Discussion.
-Assign textbooks. Read pp. 4-10, Do #1 & 4, p. 6 and #2, 3, 5, p. 11.
* Wednesday, February 6
-Go over homework questions.
-Intro to ideologies, origins and political spectrum. Continute powerpoint & Discussion of ideologies, 4 corners activity.
-Handout Summary of Ideologies and Political Spectrum Questionnaire (pgs are backwards on pdf version) to be done for Thursday.
-Read pp. 11-15, Do #1b & 3, p.15.
